Telling him it was time to let her rest in peace and start living again before it was too late.
“I don’t know,” he said. “Sometimes it’s not easy being alive. Being left.”
“It’s all we’ve got.”
Getting to her feet, she brushed the sand off her clothes and said, “I’ll see you in a few days.”
She moved off, leaving him alone.
For a while he sat there, letting random thoughts slowly trickle through his consciousness, watching the low waves curl and crumple along the tide line in their eternal rhythm.
Then he pulled out his Stealth and dialed Flinders’ number.
